Meet the Real Life Hero: Sabin Barto

It was a warm night in Florida and the date was July 4th, 2012, a violent accident trapped an

unconscious man in his flaming car. Surprisingly, a stranger walked through the fire and

pulled the driver out of harm’s way just before the car exploded. The Independence

day hero vanished into the shadows of night like a movie character, but that wasn’t the first or the last

time that he helped someone in need.

Sabin Barto is a military veteran, but being a modest man he does not talk much about his

life in the US Navy. Now he is living the post military life and spends his time buying property in

Florida, authoring children’s book and screenplays, and undergoing a large project trying to save

Florida’s wetlands.

He appears to be a nice, normal person to someone who doesn’t know him, but

according to his neighbors and friends, he’s a quiet, reserved Captain America who has

strength and courage like a superhero. People compare him to Captain America because his

heroic deeds usually take place on July 4th, or around that date.

On July 3rd 2016, in Naples, Florida, Barto saw a car accident while driving to

his home along with his daughter after a fireworks celebration with his friends. As Sabin

stepped out of his vehicle to assist the passengers and the drivers, a lone policewoman who

had been chasing these people arrived there. She took out the gun and screamed at the

passenger who was trying to flee. Assuming it to be a crime scene, Sabin caught the driver

who was trying to flee and held him on the ground for the officer after she was able to

subdue the passenger. Barto stayed with the officer until her backup arrived.

While most fear danger, we have to be thankful for the few like Sabin Barto who are willing and able to put their own lives in danger in order to save lives and for the greater good.
